The Greene County Election Commission has announced that Phil Gentry, of Alice Street, Greeneville, has filed a petition to run in the 8th County Commissioner District.

Gentry currently serves as a member of the Greeneville Civil Service Board.

The County Commissioner position was made vacant with the death of Commissioner Brenda Grogan on Aug. 6 following a recent illness.

Gentry filed the petition on Wednesday. Russell Johnson and former County Commissioner Bill Dabbs have also filed.

The election to fill Grogan's unexpired term will take place on Nov. 6 in connection with the state and federal General Election on that date.

The commissioner term expires at the end of August 2014.

The deadline for filing petitions to run for the 8th District seat is 12 noon on Wednesday, Sept. 12.
