Greeneville police are looking for a man who damaged a sidewalk and stole an iron grate at the site of the CVS Pharmacy that is under construction at 506 Asheville Hwy.

The theft happened Sunday and was reported Monday morning, Officer Gina Holt said in a report.

The site manager told police that about 5 p.m. Sunday, a man driving a white Ford pickup "pulled onto the site and backed onto the sidewalk, breaking a large chunk of concrete away," the report said.

The man got out of the truck and loaded a cast-iron storm grate and a piece of metal roof decking into the back of the truck, the report said.

An employee saw the man damage the sidewalk and load the items onto the truck and asked him what he was doing, the report said.

"The man gave the impression he was there working, cleaning up the site," the report said.

The employee gave police a partial number of the tag on the truck.

He described the man as being about 5-feet-9 inches tall, weighing about 170 pounds, and having long, sandy-colored hair. He was wearing camouflage pants and a silver shirt, the report said.

The man was accompanied by a woman who was about 5-feet-5 inches tall and wearing a yellow shirt and jeans.

Damage to the sidewalk is estimated at $1,000. The iron grate is worth $600, and the roof decking is valued at $60.
