Greene County Schools' 2013-2014 Pre-K and Kindergarten pre-registration will be held at each elementary school from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., March 12 through March 15.
Schools will continue to accept applications throughout the end of the current school year and at the beginning of the next school year.
During the summer months, parents may submit applications to the Greene County Schools Central Office, at 910 W. Summer St.
Children must be four years old on or before Sept. 30 to qualify for Pre-K.
To enroll in kindergarten, children must be five years old on or before Aug. 31, 2013.
All children enrolled in a state-funded Pre-K classroom during the 2012-2013 school year may enroll in kindergarten.
AGE REQUIREMENTS
Parents of children turning five years old on or before Sep. 30, 2013, seeking to enroll their children in kindergarten may request an assessment at their zoned elementary school.
A request form will be available at the schools, and assessments will be conducted in late spring or early summer.
Kindergarten attendance is required before attending first grade, but attendance in the Pre-K program is voluntary.
Application for the Pre-K program does not guarantee admission, because enrollment in the Pre-K program is based on income.
Pre-K children from families above the qualifying income level will have the opportunity for enrollment as slots become available at the beginning of the school year.
Some of the Greene County Pre-K classrooms located in the schools are partnered with Head Start. These are the only classrooms that provide transportation for this grade-level.
HOLSTON HOME CLASSES
Greene County Schools is also in partnership with the Early Childhood Services of Holston United Methodist Home for Children.
These classrooms are located at the Children's Center and Small Miracles. They enroll 3- and 4-year-old children, and offer child care services before and after the regular school day.
For more information on these classrooms, call the Children's Center at 638-5589 and Small Miracles at 639-9930.
ITEMS NEEDED
To register children for Kindergarten or apply for Pre-K, parents should visit their zoned elementary school and provide a copy of their child's birth certificate, Social Security card, and immunization/health record on the most recent form, which may be obtained from a doctor or the health department.
Proof of income is also needed when enrolling a child in Pre-K.
For additional information about Pre-K or Kindergarten pre-registration, parents should contact their zoned school or call Greene County Schools at 639-4194.
