The public is invited to a pro-Second Amendment rights rally from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Gina's, the former Olde Towne Family Restaurant, on East Andrew Johnson Highway.
The Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution states: "A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."
Rallies relating to the Second Amendment and gun-related rights will be held nationwide on Saturday as part of a "Day of Resistance," local event organizer Doug Brooks said.
Nationally, "Day of Resistance" rallies are being sponsored by the Tea Party movement.
The local rally is sponsored by the Caney Branch Tea Party, the Greeneville Tea Party, and the Greeneville 9/12 Project.
Speakers will include state Rep. Jeremy Faison, R-11th, of Cosby, and U.S. Senate candidate Brenda Lenard.
Lenard is expected to be a candidate in 2014 for the U.S. Senate seat now held by U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn.
Second Amendment rights will be the focus of the rally, Brooks said.
