Reported Theft Investigated After Incident At McDonald's

Greeneville police continue an investigation into the reported theft of $640 from a woman about 12:35 a.m. today in the parking lot of McDonald's at 504 Asheville Hwy.

Officer Eddie Key said in a report he was on patrol when he saw a man "fall and roll" in the parking lot, and a black pickup truck pull out of the lot at a high rate of speed.

The truck was stopped, and the occupants, a 21-year-old Greeneville man and a woman, were issued tickets for not wearing seat belts.

The man who fell in the parking lot was identified as a passenger in a car in the parking lot.

The driver of the car, a 23-year-old Lenior City woman, told officers that the truck driver stole $640 from inside her bra. The same amount of money was found on the man in the truck, the report said.

A review of the restaurant's surveillance video showed two vehicles parked next to each other in the lot and the parties talking with each other.

It showed the truck leaving at a high rate of speed with a man hanging onto the truck and then falling and rolling in the parking lot, the report said.

Thirty-five ropinirole hydrochloride pills were found inside the car. They and the money found on the truck driver are held in property lockers at the Greeneville Police Department while the investigation proceeds, the report said.

No charges have been filed.
