Rumors of a shooting incident about 1:20 p.m. Friday in the Greeneville Walmart SuperCenter proved to be false, Greeneville police said.
Police said a shopper in Walmart heard a loud noise she thought was a gunshot and ran out of the store, slipping "and skinning her hand a little bit."
The woman went next door to the Dollar Tree store with a bloody hand, police said, and an employee at that store, thinking that there had been a shooting inside Walmart, telephoned in a report to that effect.
Police responded to the scene and found no shooter or evidence of a shooting.
"It was just a misunderstanding," a Greeneville officer said.
