'Salute To Industry' Special Section Inside Today's Sun

Originally published: 2013-05-30 10:44:31

The vibrant, diversified and expanding industrial base in Greene County is featured today in The Greeneville Sun's annual Salute To Industry.

The 20-page special section of photos and articles is inside today's newspaper, filled with features about manufacturers large and small -- and the employees and managers that are making things happen.

Sun staff members have interviewed a number of managers or owners to get the latest information on their companies, and toured production lines to see the products local employees are producing.

Many readers will recognize family members or neighbors in these articles.

Along the way there is much insight to be gained about how Greene County works -- and the pride employees take in what they do.

The list of accomplishments is long for local manufacturers, and the main theme is widespread expansion by existing companies.

Plus, this special section takes a look at the growing and increasingly important role of the Greene Technology Center in educating and training workers for well-paying jobs now available locally to qualified individuals.

The tourism industry in Greene County is also highlighted, showing that visitors in 2011 (the latest year for which records are available) is estimated to have generated nearly $80 million for Greene County.

A key element of local industry is the Greene County Partnership (GCP).

The organization is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year.

With that in mind, the Sun asked Tom Ferguson, president and CEO of the Partnership, to write an article for the Salute To Industry special section.

He reflects, in his own words, on industry recruitment over the past 20 years, emphasizing that it is a process, not an event.

And don't miss what the State of Tennessee House of Representatives has to say about Greene County industry in an official proclamation that can be found on Page 16 of Salute To Industry.

Numerous advertisements add valuable information to the section.

Salute To Industry is a combined effort of all departments of The Greeneville Sun over a period of several weeks.

The staff of The Greeneville Sun learns a lot each year in researching and writing about local industry.

We hope you enjoy reading about the places where many of your family members, friends and neighbors are employed, and how together they make Greene County work.
