Citizens have filed several "scam" type complaints with the Greene County Sheriff's Department in recent days, Sheriff Steve Burns said in a news release.
The scam involves a male or female caller who claims to be a law enforcement official.
Burns cited instances of individuals' identifying themselves as being from the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, United States Marshal Service or a postal inspector.
In most of the calls reported to the Sheriff's Department, the caller requests that money be wired to a specific location.
"This type of call should be considered bogus. Please do not give these callers any personal information and please do not send them any money," the news release said.
Anyone receiving a scam call should contact the Greene County Sheriff's Department at 798-1800 or contact the nearest law enforcement agency.
