A search for a 47-year-old woman reported missing in the Ducktown area of Greene County has been suspended pending further investigation, Sheriff Steve Burns said today.
An extensive search for Rebecca Larosa Ryans was conducted Thursday in the Freedom Road area of Ducktown, in the northeastern corner of Greene County near the Washington County line.
The search, conducted by members of the Greene County Sheriff's Department, Greeneville Emergency & Rescue Squad and the Tennessee Highway Patrol, was suspended at dark on Thursday night.
No foul play is suspected, Burns said.
"We're going to reassess it this morning and go from there," Burns said. "She could have just as easily decided to leave."
An area surrounding 1035 Freedom Road was searched Thursday. A police K-9 unit and a THP helicopter participated.
"We feel we did the best we could. It's a heavily wooded area with a lot of undergrowth," Burns said in a telephone interview from the scene Thursday night.
Ryans was at home Wednesday when a relative went to work. She was not there when he returned, Burns said.
"It's possible she left on her own," he said.
Ryans is described as having a thin build, long blonde hair and brown eyes. She is 5-feet-7 inches tall, weighs about 110 pounds and has a dark complexion.
