A house and a mobile home were damaged in separate fires over the weekend, sheriff's Deputy John Stills said in reports.
James Crawford told deputies he was sleeping about 1:45 a.m. Friday in his house at 4450 Old Stage Road when a "crackling noise" woke him up.
Crawford, 41, went to check the wood stove, saw the fire burning and called 911, the report said.
The Tusculum and Newmansville volunteer fire departments responded to the scene.
No injures were reported. No damage estimates were included in the report.
In another incident, firefighters from Tusculum and Newmansville responded to a fire reported about 6:30 p.m. Friday at a mobile home on 700 Holder Road.
Owner Nancy Nelson said her grandson, Trevor Mathes, heard "crackling noises" from an electric heater and then saw a fire burning in the area of the heater.
Mathes, who was the only person home when the fire started, called 911.
No injuries were reported. The extent of damage to the mobile home was not included in the report.
The owner has insurance, the report said.
