LIMESTONE -- The staff of Davy Crockett Birthplace State Park invites one and all to kick off that NewYear's resolution to be more active and get in touch with local history by joining the "First Hike" event at the park.
Meet with park staff and volunteers on Jan. 1 for a brisk walk through the park and through history.
Meet at 11 a.m. at the Crockett Cabin. The 7/8 mile hike along the Limestone Creek will kick off at noon.
During the hike the area's rich natural and historical resources will be the subject of interpretation. Hikers should dress for the weather and wear shoes suitable for hiking.
Before and after the hike, hot wassail and cookies in the cabin will be served as long as supplies last.
In case of rain, the hike will be canceled to simply enjoy the fellowship, refreshments and perhaps some stories of the area's rich history.
In case of heavy snow or icy conditions, the event will be canceled.
