Takoma Regional Hospital will celebrate "Breast Cancer Awareness Month" with free goody bags for every mammography patient during the month of October.
"Mammograms save lives, so we want to give this special gift as an incentive for women to have this simple diagnostic test," said Vickie Henegar, Takoma's Imaging director.
"Takoma not only provides mammograms, but we're proud to offer the area's only breast MRI, which is even more sophisticated in finding the smallest breast tumors," she added.
Every mammogram patient in October will be registered to win a large gift basket full of pink goodies, Henegar said.
For more information, please call the Women's Center of Diagnostic Imaging at 278-1900.
Takoma will participate in several special events to recognize "Breast Cancer Awareness Month," including the "Making Strides To End Breast Cancer" fundraiser Oct. 13 in Johnson City.
If interested in participating on the Takoma team, please call Gwyn Southerland at 636-2369.
The hospital also will offer tours for anyone wanting to visit the "Day By Day New Outlook" area.
"We provide prosthetics, wigs, scarves, special makeup for chemotherapy patients, just about anything we can think of to make the journey easier for cancer patients," Henegar said.
"We also will provide one-on-one counseling for breast cancer patients going through treatment, as well as helpful educational materials."
The "Day By Day" room is located in the Diagnostic Center for Women's Health on the third floor of the Takoma Medical Associates building, 438 E. Vann Road.
