A man and woman picked up Wednesday as “persons of interest” in the death of Donald Ray Gunter were charged today with first-degree murder.

Charged were Amanda Kate Harris, 27, of 1006 Light St., and Mario Donte “Rio” Keene, 39, of 714 North Main St.

Gunter, 69, was found dead just before noon on Tuesday in his home at 554 Old Mountain Road.

Sheriff Steve Burns and investigators met this morning with Assistant District Attorney General Cecil Mills.

“Shortly after that meeting, arrest warrants were issued charging Mario Donte Keene and Amanda Kate Harris with first-degree murder,” Burns said in a news release.

Keene and Harris are held on $600,000 bond each pending a first scheduled court appearance Friday in General Sessions Court.
