Both drivers were injured in a two-vehicle crash about 5:05 p.m. Wednesday on West Andrew Johnson Highway near the intersection with West Church Street, Greeneville police said.
The crash between a car and a truck pulling a horse trailer tied up rush-hour traffic while the wreck was cleared, Officer Jeff Sowers said.
The crash happened when a car driven by Carol Fish, of Jonesborough, changed lanes to make a U-turn and slowed down. The truck did not slow down and crashed into the back of the car, Sowers said.
Fish was freed from the car by the Greeneville Emergency & Rescue Squad and taken to Laughlin Memorial Hospital.
She was later transferred to Johnson City Medical Center, where she was listed in stable condition this morning.
The truck driver's name and condition were not immediately available.
The crash slowed traffic "significantly" until the vehicles were removed, Sowers said.
It was raining at the time of the wreck, Sowers said.
No tickets were issued.
