Gary Funk, senior vice president of trucking operations at Landair, will lead the Major Gifts Division for the 2013 United Way Campaign, Campaign Chair Mike Hopkins has announced.
Funk, a current board member of United Way of Greene County, has been involved in the United Way campaign at Landair for many years.
He has agreed to take on the expanded countywide role of Major Gifts Division Chair for 2013.
Hopkins commented on Funk's leadership, saying, "We are thrilled to have Gary as chair of the Major Gifts Division.
"He is committed, energetic, and genuinely cares for our community. I feel confident that he will lead the Major Gifts Division to success."
Funk responded, "I have been a United Way supporter for many years and consider it an honor to chair the United Way Major Gifts Division this year.
"Through the 23 agencies supported by United Way, so many lives are directly or indirectly touched. I encourage all businesses and individuals to participate in giving to this worthy cause."
Funk will recruit and work with other volunteers to reach out to the community and encourage United Way giving.
He has been in the transportation industry since 1972 in various capacities.
He and wife Nila have three children: Beth, a graduate of Clemson University; Mark, also a graduate of Clemson University; and David, a graduate of the University of Tennessee.
