The 18th annual Greene County Outreach Thanksgiving Meal will be held on Thanksgiving Day at Cedar Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church, located at 4170 Newport Hwy.

Anyone in Greene County wishing to have meals delivered should call 639-1617 and leave a message with their name, phone number, address and number of meals requested as soon as possible. No phone calls will be accepted after Tuesday.

Carry-outs and meals in a dining room will be available at the church after 11:00.

Last year there were 2,336 meals served, and the planning committee is anticipating around 2,500 meals this year, a spokesman said.

The event is sponsored by 15 to 18 area churches of all denominations.

Anyone wishing to help on Thanksgiving morning, or any church or organization who would like to participate in cooking part of the 95 gallons of mashed potatoes, 85 gallons of corn, 90 gallons of green beans, 150 sheet cakes, or which would like to provide any of the 187 dozen canned drinks that will be needed this year, should either call 639-1617, or e-mail to (

There will be around 50 routes for delivery of meals on Thanksgiving and over 100 jobs for volunteers packing and boxing meals

Anyone bringing food is asked to have it at Cedar Hill around 8:30 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning. People wanting to help with the meal packing should be at the church gym around 9 a.m. to get their job and instructions, and the packing of meals will start around 9:30.

Delivery drivers should report to the church sanctuary beginning at 9:15 and have a seat in the sanctuary so routes can be distributed at 9:30. Deliveries will begin at 10:00, and all drivers should be on the road by 11:00 or 11:15.
