A Limestone woman died early Saturday in a fire in a building she lived in at 2528 Old State Route 34, Washington County Sheriff Ed Graybeal said in a news release.

The victim's name was not available this morning.

The Limestone Volunteer Fire Department responded to the call at 4:06 a.m. Saturday.

The building where the fire broke out is divided into apartments.

"It was fully engulfed when the fire department arrived on scene," Graybeal said.

"After firefighters gained control of the fire, they discovered a body in the basement apartment of the residence."

The fire cause remains under investigation

Working on the investigation are a state fire marshal and the Washington County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division.
