From The Greeneville Neighbor News

Do you make good chili? Do you make great chili? You might have what it takes to win the award of Jonesborough’s Best Chili.

The Jonesborough Area Merchants and Services Assoc. is now accepting entries for its 2nd Annual Chili Cook-Off on Sunday, Oct. 13, noon until 4 p.m., at Storytelling Park, behind the International Storytelling Center.
Entry Rules
Chili must be cooked from scratch at home or an alternate location.

Each team must produce five gallons of chili for judging and public tasting. Sides to compliment chili are allowed.

Teams will be expected to bring their chili entries hot and ready to eat.

Teams will be provided with a chafing dish and sterno to keep their chili hot. No electricity will be provided.

Teams may bring a popup canopy and chairs if they desire.

Booth set up will begin at 10 a.m., with judging at 11:30 a.m.

The event will open to the public at noon.

Entries will be judged on taste, color, aroma, consistency and aftertaste.

Prizes will be given in three categories Chili Champion, People’s Choice and Best Booth Decorations.

Other activities to take place during the Jonesborough Chili Cook-Off include a children’s area, family storytelling, craft vendors, chili joke contest and live music.

Craft beer and other food items will also be available for purchase.

A limited number of chili cook-off entries will be accepted through Oct. 4. The entry fee is $10 for members of JAMSA and $20 for others.

Proceeds will benefit the Jonesborough Area Merchants & Services Association and Jonesborough Area Ministerial Association.
