'The Nutcracker' Takes NPAC Stage

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. -- The Kingsport Ballet will present its tenth performance of the holiday classic, “The Nutcracker” at the Niswonger Performing Arts Center on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1.

The performances will mark the Kingsport Ballet’s 30th anniversary season, with guest performances by San Francisco Ballet soloists, Sasha De Sola and Daniel Deivison-Oliveira.

De Sola, who will dance the role of Princess Clara, trained at the Kirov Ballet in Washington and has won various major international competitions.

As a young student, De Sola danced under Kingsport Ballet’s artistic director, Valeria Sinyavskaya, in at Southern Ballet’s production of “The Sleeping Beauty.”

“I remember Sasha as one of my little waltz girls in ‘The Sleeping Beauty,’” Sinyavskaya said. “At this young age she had beautiful artistry and outstanding facility for classical ballet.”

Daniel Deivison-Oliveira is also a soloist with SFB. He joined the company in 2005 and is originally from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

De Sola and Deivison-Oliveira will be joined in the production by the Kingsport Ballet company members and students.

Available through the NPAC box office, tickets are $20 for adults and $16 for seniors. Special group rates may apply. For more information, call the NPAC box office at 423-638-1679.

Ticket prices: $10, $15 (groups); $16 (seniors); and $20 (adult).

(In addition to the public performances, there will be a performance for school groups on Nov. 29.)
