Tortoiseshell cats are named for their distinctive coloring -- a combination of patches of black, brown, amber, red, cinnamon and chocolate.
Tortoiseshell cats are almost exclusively female.
Cats of this coloration are believed to bring good luck in the folklore of many cultures. In the United States, these are sometimes referred to as “money cats”.
Currently, at the Greeneville-Greene County Humane Society, is a Tortoiseshell cat. Her name is Angelique.
Angelique, a stray, was down on her luck. Having been dumped on the side of the road with her litter of nursing kittens, she had no where to go and no food to eat.
Her luck began to change when she and her kittens were found starving and brought to Animal Control.
After a few days at Animal Control, she was brought to the adoption center at the Greeneville Greene County Humane Society to nurse her kittens until they were old enough to wean and then all were put up for adoption.
All of Angelique’s kittens were quickly adopted, while she was left to patiently wait for her furever” home.
Three years later, she is still waiting. She has adjusted to life in the cat room and loves lying in her bed or in the sun on the cat porch but a home of her own is still her dream.
Angelique has a beautiful coloring. As with all “torti” cats, each have unique coloring. She is black with orange flecks throughout her body. Her face is a beautiful split of orange on one side and continues around both eyes with orange stripes, topped off by beautiful black & orange flecked ears.
Angelique has the most beautiful green eyes that are mesmerizing Angelique has the typical “torti” personality. Very independent, but she loves attention.
She is our “Queen” of the cat room.
She LOVES to be petted and rubbed behind her ears.
When you pet her, she will reach out her paw as if to say…”don’t stop!” and stretch in happy satisfaction when you continue to pet her.
These pictures show how beautiful she is and we hope that Angelique finds her special home soon.
Because she has been at the adoption center for so long, she does have a reduced adoption fee so if you have been thinking about adopting a cat, come visit Angelique. She’s been spayed, vaccinated, microchipped and has had a complete vet exam. She will definitely love going to her furever” home!
Come see if Angelique is a match for you. We have lots of other adoptable animals that want a “furever” home and lots of love!
