BANNER ELK, N.C. -- The 35th Annual Woolly Worm Festival will be Oct. 20-21. "This family festival captures good ol' family fun with rides, food, craft vendors and racing worms," said an event news release.
The Woolly Worm Festival has been listed among the “10 Great Fall Festivals" by Smarter Travel Online.
Saturday hours are 9 until 5. Sunday hours are 9 until 4.
In the "worm race," Saturday's "winning worm" will have the esteemed honor of predicting the High Country area's winter via the coloring of segments on its body.
The winning worm will also earn $1,000 for beating out other worms in its heat. [Ed. Note: what does a worm do with $1,000? It probably shares with friendly humans.]
Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for youth ages 6-12 and under, and free for children through age 5.
Proceeds will support children’s programs, tourism and small business programs in Avery County.
