Fortel Pitches Perfect Game For Lady Devils

The Greeneville High School softball team rolled to a doubleheader sweep of visiting Cherokee Saturday in non-district action.
The Lady Devils won by scores of 1-0 and 5-3 over the Class AAA opponent.
The highlight of the day was the pitching of Greeneville sophomore Jordan Fortel.
Fortel pitched a perfect game in the opener, striking out 13 of the 15 batters she faced in the five-inning affair.
She then came on with two outs in the third in the second game and proceeded to strike out seven straight batters to end the contest and preserve the GHS victory.
In game one, Greeneville got the only run it needed in the top of the first as Selena Leon singled and then was quickly brought home on a triple by Lorena Leon.
The Lady Devils had another scoring opportunity in the second as Hannah Holt walked and Fortel reached on an error with two outs.  However,
Cherokee got out of the inning without further damage.
Greeneville didn’t have another hit the rest of the game, but Fortel easily held the Lady Chiefs at bay.
In game two, the Lady Devils again struck first as Fortel and Lorena Leon both singled in the first inning to set up a three-run homer by Sara Luttrell.
The top of the Greeneville order did work again in the second as Fortel walked, Selena Leon and Lorena Leon both singled, and Luttrell followed with a two-run base hit to make it a 5-0 game.
Freshman pitcher Megan Ramsey started the second game for the Lady Devils and went through the first two innings unscathed before Cherokee tried to rally in the third.
The Lady Chiefs used a walk and three hits to cut the deficit to 5-3, and had runners on second and third before Fortel came on to close the inning.
