The Greeneville Cross Country teams turned in another strong finish while running in the Cherokee Classic at Knoxville on Saturday.
The Lady Devils managed a 10th place finish against a strong field of 33 teams while the Greene Devils recorded a fourth place team finish against a field of 36 teams.
Hannah Rhodes was the top finisher for the Greeneville girls, placing 14th out of 230 runners covering the 5000 meter course in 21:00.1. Coven Braxton was solid with a 36th place finish in a time of 22:22.8.
Freshman Sydne Stephens continued to run well, placing 97th in a time of 24:44.3. Leah Thwing stepped into the top five for the first time this season finishing 116th in 25:52.7. Rounding out the top seven for the Lady Devils were Lindsay Nelson (126th, 26:23.7), Megan Cole (127th, 26:24.2) and Leigh Ann Blalock (141st, 27:30.9).
Wes Pectol and Zach Weaver led the charge for the Greeneville boys. Pectol finished the race in a strong 16:18.0 placing second out of 337 finishers. Weaver also claimed special recognition by placing tenth in a time of 16:42.7.
Matthew Bowers moved up on the team by placing 30th in 18:03.6. Wesley King was close behind running an 18:09.6 for 34th place. Atlas Fagundes completed the top five by placing 49th in a time of 18:36.8. Other finishers for the Devils were Alex Biumi (76th, 19:13.4), Conor Miles (152nd, 20:56.9) and Ben Simpson (308th, 26:12.8).
On Monday morning Tennessee Runner had the Greeneville boys rated as the number one A-AA team in the state. The Lady Devils were listed second in the A-AA girls rankings.
