GMS Teams Claim Titles In Bulls Gap Tourney; Mosheim Teams Third

BULLS GAP -- The Greeneville Middle School girls and boys are the champions of the annual Bulls Gap Booster Invitational Tournament.

The Greene Devils took the titles in championship games played on Saturday. The Lady Devils beat Middle-8 Conference rival Maury 33-28, while the GMS boys also were victorious over Maury 45-33 for the crown.

Mosheim's girls took third place with a 41-24 victory over Pennington Gap, while the Mosheim boys were consolation winners, beating Pennington Gap 52-37.

LADY DEVILS WIN

Greeneville's girls clinched the title 33-28, trailing 19-16 at halftime but storming back with a big second half, including a 12-5 run in the third quarter.

Katelyn Hadjopolous was named tournament MVP after scoring nine points in the title game. Mindy Neas was an all-tournament selection after leading the scoring with 13. Sydni Lollar scored five and was also an all-tourney selection.

Alexandria Alder had 16 points for Maury.

Greeneville (33): Mindy Neas 13, Hadjopolous 9, Knight 2, Lollar 5, Fillers 2, Doty 2.

Maury (28): Franklin 3, Whittymore 9, Alexandria Alder 16.

GMS BOYS GAIN VICTORY

Greeneville's boys held potent Maury to only four points in the fourth quarter and pulled away to a 45-33 victory in the title tilt.

Desmond Dabbs scored 22 and Raheem Young had 16 for the Devils. Dabbs was selected the tourney MVP while Young and Leau-Alston Williams were all-tournament choices.

Noah Carter bombed in 21 points for Maury.

Maury held a commanding 24-14 halftime lead, but GHS roared from behind to trail by only 29-28 entering the fourth, then shut down Maury in the fourth to outscore their rivals 17-4.

GMS closes out the season with a 25-5 record.

Greeneville (45): Desmond Dabbs 22, Raheem Young 16, Shelton 2, Ramsey 2, Williams 3.

Maury (33): Noah Carter 21, Baxter 2, Rogers 2, Kirk 3, Keck 2, Cody 3.

LADY TRIBE THIRD

Mosheim's Lady Indians claimed third place in the tournament, beating Pennington Gap from Virginia 41-24.

The Lady Indians were never threatened, jumping to a 13-point lead by the end of the first quarter and holding a 20-9 lead at halftime.

Taylor Payne led Mosheim with 12 points. Marissa Baker scored nine.

Alexis Rosenbalm paced Pennington Gap with 11 points.

Mosheim's Candy Majors, Taylor Payne and Kristen Payne earned a spot on the all-tournament team.

Mosheim (41): Baker 9, Majors 6, K.Payne 6, Hensley 2, Taylor Payne 12, Daniels 3, Valentine 1, Brown 2.

Pennington Gap (24): Hammonds 9, Pennington 1, Alexis Rosenbalm 11, Bartee 2, Felix 1.

P. Gap 3 6 8 7 -- 24

MOSHEIM BOYS WIN

The Mosheim boys closed out their basketball season with a 25-5 record with a 52-37 win over Pennington Gap.

Jordan Fillers scored 15 and Devin Davis had 14 to lead the Indians to the victory. Fillers and Jacob Peters were named to the all-tournament team.

D.J. Lawson scored 13 for the Virginians.

The game was tied at 20-20 at intermission before Mosheim outscored their foes 16-5 in the third quarter to take command.

Coach Kay Dunn expressed thanks to her team for an enjoyable year, and expressed special thanks to Carolyn Lowe for keeping the books for her this year.

Mosheim (52): Jordan Fillers 15, Devin Davis 14, Christopher 8, Peters 8, Daniels 5, Justice 2.

Pennington Gap (37): D.J. Lawson 13, Rasnic 8, Smith 7, Tabor 3, Musick 2, Alsap 2, Perdergraft 2.
