MORRISTOWN -- Greeneville American came out swinging and put away Morristown American 11-1 in four innings to claim the District Four crown and earn a berth in the Little League state tournament in Murfreesboro.
Greeneville got the scoring started in the first when Dalton McLain scored on a RBI single by Zane Potter.
Greeneville added five more runs in the second, sending nine players to the plate. James Duer reached on a walk and went to second on a wild pitch. He scored when the catcher could not handle a third strike during Meshach Parman's at bat, which would have retired the side.
Parman hustled down the line and the throw from the Morristown catcher eluded the first baseman. Duer rounded third and scored without a throw. Greeneville then loaded the bases with walks to McLain and Bryce Buchanan. Potter proceeded to hit a grand slam that cleared two fences to land in the lower field.
In the third inning, Greeneville batted around for the second straight frame. Devin Jennings got the scoring started with a line drive down the right field line that scored Matthew Page and Duer who had reached on a walk and hit batter respectively.
Parman singled and then McLain reached on a fielder's choice to load the bases. Morristown got one out before Zane Potter earned his sixth and seventh RBIs with a line drive single to left field scoring both Parman and McLain.
Caden Ramsey wrapped up the scoring with a RBI ground out that plated Buchanan.
Caden Ramsey earned the win pitching all four innings allowing just one run on three hits while striking out six batters.
Greeneville will travel to Murfreesboro on Saturday to take on the winner of District 6 in their opening game of the state tournament.
