JOHNSON CITY -- The North Greene softball team lived to see another day in the District 1-A tournament.

The Lady Huskies jumped out to a 6-0 lead against Hampton and went on to win 6-2 in the losers' bracket contest at Betty Basler Field Tuesday night.

North Greene, which advances to play Cloudland (3-15) in Thursday's losers' bracket semifinal at 4:30, ended the Bulldogs' season for the second spring in a row.

Tuesday night's winner's bracket final between top seed University High (21-13) and Unaka (9-9) was postponed until this evening at 7.

The Huskies (15-15) led 6-0 through four innings.

The Bulldogs (3-16) battled back in the fifth, placing runners on second and third base with two out following a pair of North Greene errors. Sadie Fletcher ripped a run-scoring single and Caley Harman plated a score.

Danielle Guinn was roughed up for nine hits and all six runs were earned. The senior struck out five, walked two, hurled two wild pitches and hit a batter.

North Greene left-hander Jessie Donihue fired a two-hitter, with no earned runs. She fanned two with no walks.

Corinne Guelli led off the bottom of the first inning with a single, before stealing second and third. She was singled in by Amethyst Crawford.

Talley Balley delivered a run-scoring single, before Mindy McNeese's run-scoring double made it 3-0. In the second, Kelsey Gaby led off with a single, and then Shayna Harmon's two-run homer pushed the cushion to 5-0.

The Huskies left a runner on, as they did in the third.

Donihue carried a perfect game into the fourth inning, when Guinn unleashed a double. She was stranded.

Donihue capped the Huskies' offensive barrage in the bottom half with a run-scoring single. Guelli had singled and stole second.

North Greene runners were on second and third in the fifth with one out. The Huskies were then retired after Hampton first baseman Taylor Berry gloved a pop fly and connected with catcher Maggie Burchett for the double play.

Hampton left a runner on in the sixth. North Greene stranded a pair in the bottom half, after Guinn had fanned the first two batters before the two wild pitches as showers set in.

Donihue sent Hampton down 1-2-3 in the seventh.

Bailey batted 3 for 4. Guelli was 2 for 4 with three stolen bases, while Crawford recorded two steals.
