McDonald and DeBusk came up with Greene County League football victories Thursday, while the Chuckey-Doak Middle School team lost a decision to Cloudland
HORNETS BLANK BLAZERS
The McDonald Hornets defeated Nolachuckey 40-0 in a game Thursday night at South Greene High's Rebel Hill.
The Hornets scored two touchdowns in the opening period, then made it 27-0 by halftime before tacking on two more scores in the third stanza.
Tyler Armstrong scored three touchdowns and passed for another for McDonald. He had a 15-yd. run, a 2-yd. run, and a 50-yd. interception return, and he passed to Tyler Clowers for a 40-yd. scoring aerial. Armstrong also added an extra point.
Clowers also scored on a 50-yd. punt return. Jeffery Wines had 1-yd. plunge for a score. Adam Ricker collected two extra points and Ricky Renteria had one.
Ricker was key on defense with three fumble recoveries. Wines, Jacob White and Bobby Jones were also defensive standouts for the Hornets.
DEBUSK DOWNS NORTHSIDE
The DeBusk Braves held off Northside in a hard-fought 27-18 decision at the North Greene High School Field Thursday.
DeBusk posted a 21-0 halftime margin and fought off a Northside rally in the second half.
Nick Valk had 288 yds. in offense and scored three touchdowns for the winners, plus he added three extra points. Taylor Thornburg had the remaining DeBusk touchdown, finishing with 75 yds. on the night.
Troy Greene had an extra point catch.
Defensively, Dakota Malone was a standout with four tackles and a pass interception. Due to DeBusk injuries, Malone played all over the field, spending time in the game at fullback, offensive tackle, offensive guard, defensive end and cornerback.
Troy Greene had eight tackles, Valk came up with five tackles, Thornburg had six tackles, Caleb Shaw had seven tackles and Blaine Bantler had a pass interception, three tackles and broke up six passes.
For Northside, Cody Compton led the offense with 131 yds. and two touchdowns. Luke Reynolds scored a touchdown on a pass from Tyler Stroud, and he had 81 receiving yards on the night.
Trenton Ledford and Tyler Stroud were defensive leaders for Northside.
KNIGHTS FALL TO CLOUDLAND
Chuckey-Doak dropped a 28-8 decision to visiting Cloudland Thursday night at the C-D Field.
The Highlanders led 14-0 at halftime and 22-0 in the second half before Chuckey-Doak got a 50-yd. touchdown pass from quarterback Logan Silvers to tight end Brennon Kimery. Taylor Ward ran for the conversion.
Silvers and Kimery led the offensive attack for Chuckey-Doak. On defense, Kimery led with 10 tackles, Hunter Robinson had nine tackles and Triston Shelton added seven tackles.
Coach Murvin expressed appreciation to all the team, but expecially the eighth graders: Logan Silvers, Cameron Hamm, Hunter Robinson, Andrew Goddard, Dalton Haynes, Taylor Ward, Jacob Cutshaw, Tyler Dillard, Tamar Wykle, Brennon Kimery, Ethan Waycaster, Ethan Self, Ryan Johnson, Hunter Owens, David Landers, Dakota Greer and Mason Price.
He also expressed thanks to his assistant coaches: Tony Shroeck, Scott Roberts and David Gefellers.
