North Greene High School's David McLain has been named Principal of the Year in Athletic District 1 by the Tennessee Secondary Schools Athletic Association.
The award was presented Monday at the TSSAA Regional Meeting held at Hardin Valley Academy in Knoxville.
The honor, made as part of the TSSAA's A.F. Bridges Awards Program, includes awards for School System Administrator of the Year, Principal of the Year, Athletic Director of the Year, Female Coach of the Year, Male Coach of the Year, Official of the Year and Contributor of the Year in each of the organizations athletic districts.
"Being recognized for one of these awards as a school or individual should be seen as one of the highest honors in high school athletics in our state," said Bernard Childress, Executive Director of the TSSAA. "Those who receive the awards truly reflect what high school athletics should be about, and that's good sportsmanship and good citizenship."
In addition to McLain being honored as Principal of the Year, other awards in Athletic District 1 went to Dr. Richard Bales of Johnson City Schools, Administrator of the Year; Calvin Decker of Morristown East, Athletic Director of the Year; Heather Kelley of Morristown West, Female Coach of the Year; Rick Sinard of Jefferson County, Male Coach of the Year; Larry Bowling of Elizabethton, Official of the Year; and Joe Whaley of Sevierville, Contributor of the Year.
