The North Greene girls' basketball team is No. 7 in the state in the first prep rankings released by the Associated Press for the 2012-13 season.

The Lady Huskies are 13-5 overall, but have lost four of their last five. They are in the middle of a seven-game homestand, with Chuckey-Doak scheduled to visit the Huskies Den tonight at 6:30 p.m.

Jackson County is ranked No. 1 in the Class A girls' poll. Two other teams from Region 1-A join North Greene in the rankings - Cosby is No. 3 and Hampton (14-4) is No. 10.

Cosby is 14-2 overall and received two first-place votes. Jackson County garnered 10 first-place votes, while No. 2 Union City received three.

North Greene is scheduled to host Hampton this Friday in a key District 1-A showdown.

In Class AA, District 2 front-runner Grainger County (17-0) received the most first-place votes (8) but is ranked No. 2 behind Cannon County, who got seven. Elizabethton (13-3) is tied for seventh.

In Class AAA, Science Hill's girls (15-2) and boys (21-2) are both ranked fourth in their respective polls.

The only other boys' team ranked from this region is Cloudland (9-4), who is No. 9 in Class A.
