Greene County Schools announced Thursday morning that it had accepted the resignation of Brandon Rohr as teacher and head coach of the boys' basketball program at West Greene High School.
The reason for Rohr's sudden resignation was not given in a press release provided to the Greeneville Sun by Greene County Director of Schools Dr. Vicki Kirk. However, it did say that Jesse Bible, a 2007 graduate of West Greene, would serve as interim coach for the remainder of the 2013-14 basketball season.
West Greene principal Steven Tunnell did not comment on the resignation of Rohr, but gave the following statement: "I am excited to see the impact that coach Bible will have on our basketball program. It is always exciting to watch someone grow up in a community and then step forward to be an active leader within that community. Jesse Bible carries on the tradition of many former Buffalo coaches like Kyle Morrell and Jimmy Jones in the fact that he represents leadership on the basketball floor, as well as in the classroom and community."
Rohr was in his first season as head coach of the Buffaloes, taking over after the departure of former coach J.D. Douglas this past offseason.
Rohr, a 2005 graduate of South Greene, served as an assistant under Douglas in 2012-13 while also teaching business classes at the school. Rohr graduated from Tusculum College in 2010.
West Greene is 2-8 on the season. Bible's first game as interim coach came this past Tuesday in a 72-59 loss to Cumberland Gap in the District 2-AA season opener for the Buffaloes.
Bible was a four-year member of the WGHS basketball team during his high school career. He went on to receive his education degree from East Tennessee State University and currently is a math teacher at West Greene.
Bible has resided in the McDonald community his entire life. He and his wife, Lauren, are members of Bible's Chapel Baptist Church.
"I am very excited to work with such a great group of young men and look forward to what God has in store for us," Bible said.
Dr. Kirk added that West Greene High School will advertise to fill the head boys' basketball coaching position in the spring of 2014.
