Billy Lee Shanks

KINGSPORT - Billy Lee Shanks, 84, of Kingsport, died late Thursday evening at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.
Born in Greene County, Mr. Shanks had lived in Sullivan Gardens since 1952.
He served in the U. S. Navy on the USS Iowa during World War II and retired from Mason-Dixon, where he was an over-the-road truck driver.
Mr. Shanks was a member of Sullivan Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Gladys Shanks; and a brother, Sammy Shanks.
Survivors include: his wife: Pauline Gibbons Shanks; three sons and daughters-in-law: Gary Wayne and Vickie Shanks and Patrick Lee and Tammy Shanks, all of Kingsport; Tim Ray and Candy Shanks of Fort Myers, Fla.; eight grandchildren: Chris Sturgill, Trevor Shanks, Brad Shanks, Drew Shanks, Dustin Shanks, Mindy Shanks, Shauna Shanks and Ciria Fildego; two brothers, Tommy Shanks and Frank Shanks, both of Sullivan Gardens; two sisters, Lois Shanks and Betty Shanks, both of Sullivan Gardens; several nieces and nephews; and special friends: Mack Dunford, Loy Faulk, Marvin Hines and Alan Bell.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. today at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport.
The funeral service will follow at the funeral home.
Pastor Jeff Strong and Trevor Shanks will officiate.
A committal service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at East Lawn Memorial Park with military rites by American Legion Post No. 3/265.
Pallbearers will be Mr. Shanks' grandsons and brothers.
