Michael Shannon Gunter, 37, of the Greystone community, died Saturday afternoon due to injuries received in an automobile accident.

Mr. Gunter was employed by Cutshaw Masonry.

His family stated, "He was a hard worker, who helped anyone that would ask; he had a big heart and would give 'the clothes off his back.'

"He always had a big smile on his face and was able to make you smile and laugh. He was a big kid at heart and loved horse shoes and going hunting, fishing, camping and to football games.

"He enjoyed playing football with his younger cousins and others, and he lived his life to the fullest."

Survivors include his son: Shannon Noah Cox of Mosheim; a very special uncle: Frank Gunter, who, the family noted, was like a "Dad" to him; a very special aunt: Imogene Parkins, whom he thought as a mother, his family stated; his very special cousins and friends: Janet and Michael Angel, Sonda and Chris Roark, Charlene and Lemar Dean, Ronald and Esther Gunter, Amber Dean, Kaliey Dean, Heidi Dean, Charlie Isley, Jo Jo Isley, Dakota Isley, Nicholas Roark, Lacy Dean, AJ Dean, Donnie and Patricia Norton, Curtis Lawn, Lynn Gunter, Jasmine Norton, Daniella Norton, Cricket and Kathy Cutshaw, Mark Dixon, Jessie Dalton, and Bud Gilland, who were like brothers and sisters to him, according to his family; five special aunts and one special uncle: Annie Norton, Bonnie May Gunter, Lorean Dearing, Shelby Jean Hensley, Wanda Smith, and Jack Gunter; his special cousins: Chad Smith, Christopher Dean Thompson, and Tammie Bower; and his special friends: Eli Cutshaw, Jim Darnell, Buster Gilland, Ezra Gilland, Slim Gilland, Dorothy Gilland, David Brooks, Jamie Parkins, Jim Bob Shelton, and Billy Easterly.

He was a son of the late Clyde M. and Betty Sue Hensley Gunter.

The family will receive friends from 1-3 p.m. Thursday at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be held at 3 o'clock Thursday afternoon in the funeral home chapel. The Rev. Jim Fillers and the Rev. Lynn Mercer will officiate.

Interment will follow in Price's Cemetery in the Kelley Gap community.

Pallbearers will be Richard Cutshaw, Eli Cutshaw, Mark Dixon, Lacy Dean, Lynn Gunter, and Jamie Parkins.

Honorary pallbearers will be Mikey Gilland, Chris Gilland, Jessie Dalton, and Jimmy Shelton.
