Died: July 20, 2012

Jerry Allen Hammontree, 62, of Greeneville, passed away Friday at Laughlin Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.

Jerry had a strong faith in God. He loved his family and friends and took pride in his work. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loveD good conversation. He enjoyed a variety of sports and read extensively. He loved animals and nature.

Survivors include his wife of 21 years: Wendy McAmis Hammontree; his beloved cat: Lucy; one sister: Shirley Johnston and husband, Lanny, of Greeneville; two nephews: Derek Eikenberry of Johnson City and Joseph Watson of Knoxville; his special friends: Bonnie Guthrie of White Pine, and Mike Hoss and Vicki Hughes of Greeneville, and a number of other dear friends.

He was the son of the late Allen G. and Claris Keller Hammontree and was preceded in death by an infant sister, Margaret Hammontree.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home with the funeral service following at 8 p.m. in the chapel. The Rev. James Fain will officiate.

A committal service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Fairview Cemetery on Snapps Ferry Road.

Honorary pallbearers will be the individuals who are served by and the employees of the Lakeway Achievement Center and Greene Valley Development Center and the board of directors of the Lakeway Achievement Center.

The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the staff providing services at Laughlin Memorial Hospital, on the fourth floor and in the intensive care unit.

Those who prefer may make donations to the American Humane Society or to the American Red Cross.
