Died: Oct. 2, 2012

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. -- Jewel Douglas Burnette, 84, left this earth on Tuesday to be with her beloved husband, Carl, and their Savior, Lord Jesus Christ.

She was "Nanny" to all of her grandbabies and the grandbabies at church and youngsters of all ages.

She was a member of the Cardinal Free Will Baptist Church for almost 50 years.

Jewel was preceded in death by her husband, Capt. Carl Burnette, and a granddaughter, Cindy Wilson.

She is survived by her daughters: Leslie Wilson (Bobby) of Leland, Kathy Coulter (Bern) of Wilmington, and Cherry McDaniel (Jeff) of Richmond, Ind.; two brothers: Charles Gray Jr. of Whitesburg, Tenn., and John Gray of Huntley, Ill.; seven grandchildren: Jackie Laney, Reneé Vaczy, Shannon Coulter, Amanda Coulter, Kelly Noe, Sandy Terhaar, and Jessica Case; eight great-grandchildren: Joshua Riggs (CPL), Matthew Riggs, Shane Vaczy Jr., Sara Vaczy, Dylan McDaniel, Evan Riley Noe, Austin Lee Case, and Daniel Terhaar; and her very special friends: Grace Sandy and her husband, Edward.

The family received friends Thursday evening at Johnson Funeral Home in Jacksonville.

A celebration of life service will be at 5 p.m. today at Cardinal FWB Church with Pastor Nate Waites officiating.
