William C. Looney, 87, of the Susong Memorial community, passed away Saturday afternoon at Takoma Regional Hospital.
He was born Oct. 11, 1924, in Greene County, a son of the late Horace and Nora Fillers Looney.
William was a veteran of World War II and was a paratrooper in the Korean War.
He retired from Alltrista Zinc Products after 24 years of service.
He was a member of Greeneville Church of Christ.
He was a farmer and loved to garden.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years: Joan Kirk Looney; three children and spouses: Roger and Elaine Looney of Greeneville, Terry and Ronnie Smith of Baileyton, and Joe Looney of Greeneville; five grandchildren and their spouses: Stephanie and Rodney Arnold, Brian Looney, Rachel and Randall Thompson, Mark and Cindy Klepper, and Michael and Star Klepper; five great-grandchildren: Jordan Cutshall, Sadie Bowers, Chauncey Arnold, Celi Arnold, and Evan Klepper; several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren; one sister: Montie Bright; several nieces, nephews, special friends, and neighbors; and a special pet, his dog: Tinker.
He was preceded in death by two sisters: Faye Pennington and Elva Lee Maupin; and one brother: Britton Looney.
The family will receive friends from 3-7 p.m. Tuesday at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel. The Rev. Sam Smith and Shane Hoover, minister, will officiate. Interment will follow in GreeneLawn Memory Gardens.
Active pallbearers will be Mark Klepper, Michael Klepper, Bobby Carter, Jason Smith, A.J. Smith, Frank Coakley, Shane Waddle, and Wayne Johnson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Brian Looney, Ronnie Smith, Larry Neas, Larry Byrd, Jackie Hartman, Woody Smith, Ralph Horne, Tony Maggio, and his friends from the Greeneville Church of Christ.
