FALL BRANCH -- Anthony A. Mejia Jr., 56, went to be with the Lord Sunday following a brief illness.

A native of San Antonio, Texas, his family moved to Greene County in 1974.

Tony was the son of an active military officer and he saw the world. He continued the family tradition by proudly serving his country in the U.S. Navy.

Tony received a bachelor's degree in computer science from East Tennessee State University.

Before his sickness, he was an adjunct faculty member of Northeast State Community College and worked for Bristol Compressor in Bristol, Va.

He attended Fairhaven Baptist Church.

Tony was preceded in death by his father, Anthony A. Mejia Sr.; paternal grandparents, Narcisso and Elvira Mejia; and maternal grandparents, Harvey and Martha Kirkpatrick.

He is survived by his wife of 33 years: Connie Thornburg Mejia; his son: Shaun Mejia; his mother: Barbara Mejia; his sisters: Angel Jennings and husband, Albert, of Chuckey and April Lawson and husband, Clyde, of Fall Branch; four nephews; one niece; one great-nephew; and a special cousin: Bobby Gass.

Friends may call anytime after 11 a.m. today at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Fall Branch.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Fairhaven Baptist Church, 108 Fairhaven Drive, Johnson City, with Dr. Farrell Osborne, Pastor Roby Osborne, and Brother William Jennings officiating.

The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service.

Burial will follow the funeral service at Pleasant Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemetery, 13385 Kingsport Highway, Chuckey. Military graveside rites will be conducted by American Legion Post No. 3/265.

Pallbearers will be Albert Jennings, William Jennings, Robert Jennings, Chris Gass, Greg Lawson, and Shaun Mejia.
