Died: Oct. 21, 2012

Fred J. Beach, age 80, of Midway, passed away at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Johnson City Medical Center after a brief illness.

He was born Sept. 12, 1932, in Midway, a son of the late Author "Jack" Beach and Mabel Ragan Beach Keicher.

Fred retired from BASF (Enka) after 28 years of service. Following his retirement, he worked for Greene County at the McDonald Convenience Center for several years.

He was a charter member of Bibles Chapel Baptist Church.

He was a member of the Midway Volunteer Fire Department and served as chief for eight years.

He was a longtime election official in the 19th district.

Fred was known for raising and selling pumpkins and had a love for auto racing.

He enjoyed eating weekly at Ryan's Steakhouse and Pizza Inn.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years: Mary Barnes Beach; one son: Gary Beach of the home; two brothers and one sister-in-law: Billy and Jodie Beach of Mosheim and Charles Beach of Midway; two sisters and one brother-in-law: Louise and John Bracken of Tusculum and Irene Easterly of Medina, Ohio; a sister-in-law: Willie Ruth Beach of Midway; several nieces and nephews, including special nieces and their spouses: Jan and Harvey Moore, Annie and Francis Cobb, Pat and Jerry Dennen, and Willie Ann and Ron Welch, and special nephew: Kenny Beach; and his special friends: Jim Reams, Billy Chandler, and Randall Chandler.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister-in-law: Kenneth Beach and Edward and Virginia Beach; one sister: Helen Beach; and his stepfather: Jess P. Keicher.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Mosheim Chapel of Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home.

Funeral services will follow at 8 p.m. at the Mosheim Chapel. The Rev. Donnie Bible and the Rev. Jerry Holt will officiate.

Family and friends are asked to meet at the Mosheim Chapel at 11 a.m. Wednesday to go in procession to Bibles Chapel Cemetery for the 11:30 a.m. committal service.

Active pallbearers will be Bill Morrison, Anthony Ball, Mark Higgins, Randy Dixon, Jerry Dennen, Harvey Moore, and Shawn Daniels.

Honorary pallbearers will be his friends of the Midway Volunteer Fire Department, co-workers at the McDonald Convenience Center, Alan Broyles, and Steve Burns.
