Alden Kelly Jones, 96, of Baileyton, passed away Saturday at
Laughlin Memorial Hospital.
Alden worked as a mechanic in Baileyton,
opening with his family a bus line to carry workers to the vital factories in
Kingsport.
Alden later opened his own business, Jones Bros. Garage in
Baileyton, and spent many years driving a school bus for the Greene County School
System.
Alden had been elected a deacon at First Baptist Church of
Baileyton in 1944. He served the church in many ways, including as a Sunday School teacher and choir
member. Alden was also part of a group of members who made improvements to the church
buildings.
In 1974, Alden and his wife, Alba, became charter members of
the Greeneville Camp of Gideon's International and the Gideon's
Auxiliary.
Survivors include two daughters: Louise Jones of Maggie
Valley, N.C., and Imogene Jones Cloar of Baileyton; one son-in-law: Campbell Cloar of Baileyton; one
honorary daughter: Amy Leonhart of Maggie Valley; two granddaughters: Alice Cloar of Knoxville and
Erin Cloar of Baileyton; one grandson: Nick Cloar of Baileyton; two sisters-in-law: Dorothy Kilgore
and Helen Graham, both of Nickelsville, Va.; several beloved nephews and nieces; a special cousin:
Alene Jones Watts of Louisiana; and a special friend of Alba's and Alden's: Reba Shelby of
Fall Branch.
The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers who
helped Alden these last few years, including Jewel Guinn, the staff at Amedisys Hospice and everyone
at Signature HealthCARE of Greeneville.
He was preceded in death by his
wife, Alba Kilgore Jones, in 2007; a brother and a sister: Edwin Frazier Jones and Lennis Jones
Sensabaugh Evans, both of Baileyton; and his parents: Riley and Novella Jones of
Baileyton.
The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. today at Jeffers
Funeral & Cremation Service, downtown.
The funeral service will be
held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Baileyton conducted by the Rev. Doug Jennings,
pastor of Romeo United Methodist Church, speaker; Gordon Williams, Gideon representative; and the
Rev. James Roberts, pastor of First Baptist Church of Baileyton, master of ceremonies and
prayer.
The body will be taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes
prior to the service.
A graveside service and interment will follow in
Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery. Wade McAmis, assistant pastor of Baileyton UM Church, will
officiate.
Pallbearers will be J.D. Sensabaugh, Randy Sensabaugh, Ed
Sensabaugh, Donnie Sensabaugh, Gary Jones, Nick Cloar, David Singleton, Jerry Kilgore, Robin
Kilgore, and Robert Tucker.
Honorary pallbearers will be David
Sensabaugh, Terry Sensabaugh, Chad Sensabaugh, Darin Sensabaugh, Shawn Jones, Shane Jones, Josh
Jones, Ron Singleton, Jackie Kilgore, Mark Kilgore, Martin Kilgore, Pete Burns, Bill Carter, Kevin
Pierce, Fred Brown, Dale Quillen, and the deacons of First Baptist Church of
Baileyton.
