Alden K. Jones

Died: Nov. 3, 2012

Alden Kelly Jones, 96, of Baileyton, passed away Saturday at Laughlin Memorial Hospital.

Alden worked as a mechanic in Baileyton, opening with his family a bus line to carry workers to the vital factories in Kingsport.

Alden later opened his own business, Jones Bros. Garage in Baileyton, and spent many years driving a school bus for the Greene County School System.

Alden had been elected a deacon at First Baptist Church of Baileyton in 1944. He served the church in many ways, including as a Sunday School teacher and choir member. Alden was also part of a group of members who made improvements to the church buildings.

In 1974, Alden and his wife, Alba, became charter members of the Greeneville Camp of Gideon's International and the Gideon's Auxiliary.

Survivors include two daughters: Louise Jones of Maggie Valley, N.C., and Imogene Jones Cloar of Baileyton; one son-in-law: Campbell Cloar of Baileyton; one honorary daughter: Amy Leonhart of Maggie Valley; two granddaughters: Alice Cloar of Knoxville and Erin Cloar of Baileyton; one grandson: Nick Cloar of Baileyton; two sisters-in-law: Dorothy Kilgore and Helen Graham, both of Nickelsville, Va.; several beloved nephews and nieces; a special cousin: Alene Jones Watts of Louisiana; and a special friend of Alba's and Alden's: Reba Shelby of Fall Branch.

The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers who helped Alden these last few years, including Jewel Guinn, the staff at Amedisys Hospice and everyone at Signature HealthCARE of Greeneville.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alba Kilgore Jones, in 2007; a brother and a sister: Edwin Frazier Jones and Lennis Jones Sensabaugh Evans, both of Baileyton; and his parents: Riley and Novella Jones of Baileyton.

The family will receive friends from 4-7 p.m. today at Jeffers Funeral & Cremation Service, downtown.

The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Baileyton conducted by the Rev. Doug Jennings, pastor of Romeo United Methodist Church, speaker; Gordon Williams, Gideon representative; and the Rev. James Roberts, pastor of First Baptist Church of Baileyton, master of ceremonies and prayer.

The body will be taken to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service.

A graveside service and interment will follow in Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery. Wade McAmis, assistant pastor of Baileyton UM Church, will officiate.

Pallbearers will be J.D. Sensabaugh, Randy Sensabaugh, Ed Sensabaugh, Donnie Sensabaugh, Gary Jones, Nick Cloar, David Singleton, Jerry Kilgore, Robin Kilgore, and Robert Tucker.

Honorary pallbearers will be David Sensabaugh, Terry Sensabaugh, Chad Sensabaugh, Darin Sensabaugh, Shawn Jones, Shane Jones, Josh Jones, Ron Singleton, Jackie Kilgore, Mark Kilgore, Martin Kilgore, Pete Burns, Bill Carter, Kevin Pierce, Fred Brown, Dale Quillen, and the deacons of First Baptist Church of Baileyton.

Donations may be made to The Gideon's International.
