Elwanda Houston Peterson

Elwanda Houston Peterson of Greeneville passed away Sunday at Signature HealthCARE Center of Greeneville after a courageous battle with an extended illness.

She gave her life to the Lord in 1993 and loved to read her Bible. She was Baptist by faith.

She was a wonderful, giving, and loving mother, and sister, and was a friend to all who knew her.

She is survived by one son, who was the greatest love and joy of her life: Douglas Dwayne Peterson and his wife, Cammie; one grandson: Jordan Peterson, whom she loved dearly; two sisters: Joyce Houston and Darlene Houston; a brother: Wayne Houston; and several nieces, nephews and special friends.

She was the daughter of the late Douglas and Evaline Houston and was preceded in death by a very special and dearly loved grandson: Dustin Key; three brothers: Ronnie Houston, Doyle Houston, and Don Johnson; and a beloved sister: Charlotte Taylor.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home with the funeral service following at 8 p.m. in the chapel. The Rev. Ray Shelton and the Rev. Lynn Mercer will officiate. The soloist will be a family friend, Curtis Anderson.

Interment will be at held at 11 a.m. Wednesday morning in River Hill Cemetery. In her honor, family and friends will meet at the cemetery Wednesday for the committal service.

The family extends a special thank you to the staff and friends at Signature HealthCARE Center of Greeneville for their care, love, and prayers; and the staff of Amedisys Hospice.
