Raymond E. Walters, 63, of Greene Ridge Loop, Afton, passed away suddenly Saturday afternoon at his home.
He was a 1968 graduate of South Greene High School and served two years in the U.S. Army.
He was a carpenter and farmer as long as his health permitted.
Survivors include one daughter: Callie Birmingham of Waynesville, N.C.; his father: Charles Walters, two brothers: Richard and Randy Walters, two sisters and brothers-in-law: Bonnie and Dolphus Morgan and Judy and Robert Elliott, and his grandmother: Gertie Jennings, all of Greeneville; his uncles and aunts: Bill and Pam Walters, Dewey Lee Walters, all of Greeneville, Robert and Mary Walters of Wedgefield, S.C., Jerry Jennings of Cosby, and Ina Ruth Harrison, Joyce and Justin Shelton, Ruby Jennings, all of Greeneville; his nieces and nephews: Becky and Ray Ball, Brad Morgan, Teresa Morgan, and Tamsen Elliott, all of Greeneville, Daniel Elliott of Fort Bragg, N.C., and Chris and Julie Elliott of Ashburn, Va.; a great-nephew: Lucas Morgan; his great-nieces: Kailey, Alycia, and Bethany Elliott of Ashburn; his adopted "grandchildren": Micah, Mason, Matthew, Madison, and Audrey; several cousins; and special friends: George Davis, Freeman Reaves, and Clark Hensley.
He was preceded in death by his mother: Jane Walters; his grandparents: Tennyson and Georgia Walters, Lona Bowens, and DP Jennings.
The family will receive friends from 3-7 p.m. today at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home chapel. The Rev. Jerry Hopson and the Rev. Kenneth Bowens will officiate. Interment will follow in Union Chapel Cemetery.
The Greene County Honor Guard and the Tennessee National Guard will conduct a military graveside service.
Pallbearers will be Brad Morgan, Ray Ball, Chad Walters, Jerry Scalf, Clark Hensley, and Curtis Rasnake.
