Silas W. "Wimpy" Penley, age 75, of the South Central community, Chuckey, passed away at his home Tuesday morning with his family at his side.
He was son of the late Abe and Florence Tarlton Penley.
He was a devoted Christian, who loved and served the Lord. He attended Lighthouse Free Will Baptist Church.
"Wimpy" retired from Superior Metal Products after 25 years of service. He previously worked for Sam Moore Chair Company for a number of years.
He was a special, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years: Helen White Penley; two sons and daughters-in-law: the Rev. Tim and Vanessa Penley of Greeneville and Tracy and Aneta Penley of Chuckey; one granddaughter and her spouse: Shaye and Eric Bright; one grandson: Tyler Penley; one stepgrandson: Luke Rog; one very precious great-granddaughter: Maddie Bright (who is a special ray of sunshine), all of Chuckey; one great-grandson: Izaiha Babicz of Greeneville; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Geater and Doris Penley of Greeneville and Benny and Sheila Penley of South Central; six brothers-in-law and seven sisters-in-law: Bobby R. and Judy White, Gwen and Ralph Landers, Phyllis and Dave Henry, Jan and Gary Fox, Carolyn and Robert Hensley, Tammy and Bobby Ferguson, and Faye White, all of Greene County; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and families of Lighthouse FWB Church and Liberty FWB Church, and neighbors; and special friends: Tom and Carol Spear, Pearl Hensley, Dodie Melton, and Gwen Twes.
The family will receive friends from 3-7 p.m. Thursday at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home with the funeral service following at 7 p.m. in the chapel. The Rev. Amos Penley and the Rev. Dave Anderson will officiate.
Family and friends will meet at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Liberty Cemetery in the South Central community for a committal service.
Pallbearers will be Jim Bob White, Larry White, Allen Landers, Mike Church, Steve Painter, Jeff Muncy, and Doug White.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Michael Odell, LPN Wanda Foulks, Tom Spear, Eula Saults, Junior Weems, Buster Rupert, Howard Painter, Walter Armstrong, Virgil L. Dunbar, and James "Petie" Penley.
