Sylvan Ray Turner

MORRISTOWN -- Sylvan Ray "Mr. Lucky" Turner, of the Lowland community, who was born Dec. 24, 1947, went to his heavenly home Wednesday to meet his father, Jimmy Charles "J.C." Turner, and his mother and stepfather, Virginia Hinkle Legg and Johnny Legg.
He died peacefully at his home.
Ray was a U.S. Army veteran.
He retired from Roadway Express.
Ray was well known for his backhoe work.
He attended New Hope Church.
Ray is survived by his daughter and son-in-law: Wally and Lynnie Davis, and, as he would say it, "his precious granddaughter": Madalyn Davis; his twin sister and brother-in-law: Shirley and Joe Hawk; his nieces: Jo Michelle Hawk, Anthony Thompson, and Kyla Hawk; extended family: Betty and Chris Lawson; numerous cousins; and many special friends.
He was preceded in death by his Mamaw and Papaw Hinkle; a brother, Jimmie Turner; and a nephew, Tony Turner.
The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. today with services to follow at 8 p.m. at Stubblefield Funeral Home. The Rev. Owen McCloud will officiate.
Family and friends will meet at 9:45 a.m. Saturday in Hamblen Memory Gardens for a 10 a.m. graveside service.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Hinkle, Anthony Thompson, Keith Bailey, Isaac Quinton, Troy Smith and Will Fields.
Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Lawson, Lee Sauceman, Hughie Long, Eddie Witt, and Jackie Kilgore.
