Died: Dec. 5, 2012

Ralph E. Johnson, 89, of Mosheim, passed away Wednesday afternoon at his home.

He was an electrician for 39 years and was a farmer.

In 1951, he began working at Modern Electric Company and later purchased the business from Rex Self in 1975. Mr. Johnson operated Modern Electric from 1975 until his retirement in 1990.

He was of the Baptist faith.

He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law: Patricia and Robert Hale of Greeneville and Carol Livingston of Mosheim; two grandsons: Gregory Holbert and David Livingston and his wife, Jennifer; three stepgrandchildren: Vicki Creak, Tonia Anderson, and Sonia Hale; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; two stepgreat-great-grandsons; a brother-in-law: George Seay of Greeneville; several nieces and nephews; and special friends: Doyle Voiles, Marvin Dearinger, Phyllis Day, and Stanley Hurst. Ralph had a special companion, his beloved dog, "Spanky."

He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years: Gaynelle Seay Johnson, who died Nov. 26, 2009; and his parents: Elmer and Lucy Johnson.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Mosheim Chapel of Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Mosheim Chapel. The Rev. Dexter Brummitt will officiate. Interment will follow in Hartman's Chapel Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Roger Anderson, Lyle Ailshie, Mike French, Jackie Payne, Gerome Banks, and Gene Witt.

Honorary pallbearers will be Doyle Voiles, Carl Fillers, Harold Smith, Norman French, Steve Seifert, Jack McKay, and Glenn Livingston.

Memorials may be made to the Greeneville-Greene County Humane Society or Hartman's Chapel Cemetery.

The Johnson family expressed a special thanks to the staff of Caris Healthcare for their care and support.
