Susan Sheryl "Susie" Whitson Overbay, 63, of Greeneville, passed away Wednesday surrounded by family and friends at Wellmont Holston Valley Regional Medical Center in Kingsport.
She was a member of Gethsemane United Methodist Church.
Susie was born Oct. 14, 1949, and was a 1967 graduate of South Greene High School.
She was a very loving mother, grandmother, and sister.
She loved to laugh and sing and had a great love for music, especially gospel music, and enjoyed cooking for her children.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law: Amy and Carson Rose of Greeneville; her son: Aaron Overbay and Kelly Reaves of Greeneville; her grandchildren: Matthew Rose, Khloe Overbay, and Kiley Overbay, all of Greeneville; her sister: Christy Whitson of Johnson City; her brother and sister-in-law: Sam and Karen Whitson of Sevierville; her special nieces: Monica Shoemaker of Greeneville, and Marissa Valentine and husband, Lloyd "Buddy" Valentine, of Sevierville; her special great-nieces: Jaelyn and Raina Shoemaker of Greeneville and Abby and Olivia Valentine of Sevierville; a stepdaughter: Michelle Russell; a stepgranddaughter: India Russell-Mitchell of Knoxville; her special aunts and their husbands: Mary Sue "Dude" and Bud Laws and Wanda and Reed Jennings of Greeneville; a special uncle: Joe Harrison of Greeneville; many special cousins; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Sandy and Larry Hogan of Greeneville; her mother-in-law: Virginia Ottinger of Greeneville; her special friends: Pam Mason, Angela Crum, Paige Miller, and Paige Thornburg; and a very special friend: Rey Hernandez.
She was preceded in death by her father: Everett Whitson; mother: Denta Kimery; grandmother: Ruth Harrison; and a special cousin: Shirley Hashe.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home with the funeral service following at 8 p.m. in the chapel. The Rev. Jerry Hopson, the Rev. Dolphus Cutshaw, and the Rev. Cindy Paxton will officiate.
Family and friends will meet at 1 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home to go in procession to Gethsemane Cemetery for a 2 p.m. committal service.
Pallbearers will be Brendon Lawing, Josh Lawing, Zahnie McCaslin, Daniel McCaslin, Jeff Jennings, Terry Baker, Ricky Harrison, and Jason Shoemaker.
Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Michael Odell, Dr. Richard Aasheim, and the nurses and staff at Holston Valley Regional Medical Center.
