Lizzie Adams Pierce Fox

Died: Dec. 4, 2012

FALL BRANCH -- Lizzie Adams Pierce Fox, of Chuckey, quietly passed away at her home Tuesday.

"The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want"....

She was the daughter of the late Janie and Landon Adams. Lizzie was born in 1923 in Greene County, the youngest of a large and loving family.

All six of her brothers: Billie Adams, Johnie Adams, Charlie Adams, Roscoe Adams, Link Adams, and Oberlee Adams, and two sisters: Chloe Adams Walker and Della Adams Williams, preceded her in death.

Her husband of 41 years, Hugh Pierce, and her second husband of 15 years, John D. Fox, also preceded her in death.

She is survived by her nieces: Shirley Adams Campbell, Janie Adams McKamey, Marlene Williams Crouch, and Sandy Adams Thomas; her nephews: Harold Adams, Johnie Wayne Adams, and Hugh Williams; a special cousin: Pat Osborne; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and a host of friends.

Lizzie had a wonderful, productive life. Upon graduating from Baileyton High School in 1943, she began working for Tennessee Eastman Co.

Then she attended Kingsport Cosmetology Beauty School and began working with her sister, Chloe, at Helena Beauty Shop. For more than 50 years, she proudly served her customers, many of who became lifelong friends.

In her retirement years, she loved to garden and was known in her community as the "Rose Lady."

She worked tirelessly to help the needy. She gave many hours to the Northern Greene County Churches' United in Love Ministry, helping to found its mission outreach program.

Never one to venture too far from home, she did love to talk about her few trips out West to visit family and her Alaskan cruise.

Lizzie leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness. She was always ready to offer a beautiful smile, to hold a hand, or give an encouraging word.

As her health continued to decline, her latest hobby became sending cards to friends and family. She spent endless hours writing special notes to those lucky people on her "list."

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to noon today at Jearoldstown United Methodist Church. Services will be conducted at noon with the Rev. Richard Bowers officiating.

Interment will follow at Oakdale Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Adam Williams, Luke Williams, Landon Williams, Tanner Shaw, Randy Jackson, and Fred Ragsdale.

Lizzie was a member of Jearoldstown United Methodist Church, and it is her wish that, in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the church in care of Marie Baxter, 1765 Jearoldstown Road, Chuckey, TN 37641.

Her family expressed thanks to Mountain States Hospice nurses and a special friend Bonnie for their tender mercies.

Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Fall Branch, is serving the family of Lizzie Adams Pierce Fox.

Condolences may be sent to the family at http://www.hamlettdobson.com.
