Estella Mercy Kate Hamilton

Died: Dec. 11, 2012

Estella Mercy Kate Hamilton, age 91, of West Allens Bridge Road, passed away Tuesday morning at Laughlin Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

She was a domestic caregiver for the Hickerson, Lamons, Doughty and the Noel families until she retired.

She was a lifetime member of Pruitt Hill United Methodist Church, where she served as communion steward, Sunday school teacher, and chairman of many other committees, as well as, holding many offices in the United Methodist Women's organization as long as her health allowed.

She also was a witness for the Lord and won many souls to the Kingdom of God.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend to everyone she knew.

Survivors include one son: Roy Hamilton; 14 grandchildren: Gail Barner, William "Dude" (Chrissy) Hamilton, Stelena (Rodney) Hamilton, Debra Hamilton, Sharon (Bernard) Claridy, Lori Hamilton, Calvin (Reba) Beard, Sammy Beard, Margaret "Tiny" Beard, Christine Hamilton, Judy (Arthur) Steen, Joyce Hamilton, Michael (Carol) Hamilton, and Craig Woods; 29 great-grandchildren; 19 great-great-grandchildren; special nephews, including: Arlin Bowers, Freddie Bowers, Alvin Bowers Jr. and Dennis Hamilton; two sisters-in-law: Edith Campbell and Mary Barkley; special friends: Connie Lamons and her children, Joe Hickerson, Judy Hickerson, Jeff Johnson, and a special loving niece, Norma Bowers.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Cary Bowers and Henry Dixon: her husband, Jimmy Hamilton; two sons, Billy Ray Hamilton and James Luther Hamilton; an infant daughter, Joyce Elizabeth Hamilton; an infant granddaughter, Regina Hamilton; two sisters, Ophelia Bowers and Yetlver Bowers; and three brothers, Fred Bowers, Haywood "Woody" Bowers and Alvin Bowers Sr.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home with the Rev. Rochelle Maxwell and Elder J.L. Gudger officiating.

Interment will follow in Pruitt Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. today and from 12-1 p.m. preceding the service Friday at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Floyd Gillespie, Shauntrell Manuel, Troy Manuel, Tee Combs, Tony Hall, Calvin Barner, Allen Barner, Rodney Merriweather and Michael Montgomery.

Honorary pallbearers will be Clay Arwood, Chuck Rader, Bernard Claridy, Virgil Marshall, Jeff Johnson, Billy Mack Barner, John Lee Barner, Randy Barner, Kenny Tweed, Jimmy Bailey, William Combs, James McNabb, Ronnie Dabbs and the men of Pruitt Hill United Methodist Church.
