Janice W. Stroud, age 72, of Mohawk, the McDonald community, passed away Thursday evening at Laughlin Memorial Hospital after a courageous 11-year battle with multiple myeloma.
She was a retired teacher from the Greene County School System.
Mrs. Stroud was a member of Fairview Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 44 years: Marvin Stroud; foster daughter and her husband: Lois and Craig Huff of Russellville; two granddaughters: Kimberly Dykes and her husband, Jeff, of Blythewood, S.C., and Leah Huff of Russellville; two great-grandchildren: Cailee and Kynslee Dykes; four brothers and three sisters-in-law: Jack and Johnnie Wisecarver of Parrottsville, Clyde Wisecarver of Wilmington, N.C., Fred and Lois Wisecarver of Morristown, and H.H. Wisecarver Jr. and wife, Thelma, of Cleveland, N.C.; several nieces and nephews; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Mrs. Hoover (Mary Ruth) Stroud of Lenoir City, Joe and Jane Stroud of Greeneville, and Betty and Bill Tabor of Mohawk.
She was preceded in death by her parents: H.H. Wisecarver Sr. and Mary Lou Sparks; stepfather: Clarence Sparks; grandson: Conley Kite; and father-in-law and mother-in-law: Claude and Maggie Stroud.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Fairview Cemetery at Mohawk. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery for the service. It was the request of Mrs. Stroud that her graveside service be conducted by members of her family.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. today at Doughty-Stevens Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
