Edith Swatzell Lathim

Died: Jan. 1, 2013

MORRISTOWN -- Edith Swatzell Smith Lathim, age 85, of Bean Station, passed away Tuesday after a lingering illness.

She attended Adriel Missionary Baptist Church as long as her health permitted.

She was a loving mother and grandmother. She was loved by all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Robert and Edna Swatzell of Greeneville; former husband: James Smith; a son: Roger Smith; a brother: Genay Swatzell of Hamblen County; and a sister: Lucy Smelcer of Greeneville.

She is survived by her husband: Baxter Kyle Lathim of Bean Station; four sons and two daughters-in-law: Gary and Alma Smith, Tim and Helen Smith, Ronnie Smith, and Eddie Smith, all of Greene County; four daughters and three sons-in-law: Janet Ellenburg, Judy and Richard Gosnell, and Debbie and Joe Griffey, all of Greeneville, and Mitzi and Roger Hayes of Bulls Gap; a stepson and his wife: Terry Bartley and Debbie; 21 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; three sisters and one brother-in-law: Annis Casteel of Greeneville, Voretta and Malcolm Skeen of the Witt community, and Gladys Idell of Morristown; three brothers and two sisters-in-law: Eugene and Wilma Swatzell of Greeneville, Zemery and Manilla Swatzell of Tusculum, and Dean Swatzell of Russellville; and a brother-in-law: Homer Lathim of Bean Station.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. today in New Bethel Cemetery in Greene County. The Rev. Tim Collins will officiate.

Stubblefield Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
