A.J. Everett Tweed, 90, of Greeneville, peacefully joined our heavenly Father Saturday at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center at Mountain Home.
He was a dedicated and respected World War II veteran, who loved his family, friends, and country.
A.J. was a kind-hearted, loving spirit.
Survivors include his daughters and a son-in-law: Janice Gregg of Chuckey and Wanda and Tives Minton of New Hope, Ala.; his sons: Douglas Tweed of Newport and Rex Tweed of Greeneville; his grandchildren and spouses: Tony and Teresa Gregg, Jeff and Terri Gregg of Greeneville, Tyler Gregg of Chuckey, Brian Tweed of North Carolina, Trever and Angela Minton of Owens Cross Roads, Ala., Tonya and Jeff Downs of New Hope, Ala., and Jennifer and Steve Freeman of Chattanooga; several nephews, nieces, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and many family friends
He was the son of the late Edward and Oma Lee Tweed and was preceded in death by his devoted and loving wife: Ruth Marjorie Tweed; a daughter: Constance Tweed; a son: Jay Harold Tweed; a brother: Eugene Tweed; and a sister: Irene Whitehead.
The family extends a special thanks to the hospice team with the VA and to his friends and neighbors who were so loving and kind.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Friday at Kiser-Rose Hill Funeral Home with the funeral service following at 8 p.m. in the chapel. The Rev. Jim Fillers will officiate.
A committal service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in GreeneLawn Memory Gardens, where "our precious gift from God will be laid to rest in peace."
The Greene County Honor Guard and the Tennessee National Guard will conduct a military graveside service.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Gregg, Jared Gregg, Bobby Gregg, Keith Tweed, Randy Tweed, and Brian Wills.
Honorary pallbearers will be Don Tweed, Steve Tweed, and Hugh Tweed.
