Dorothy Jane Scott, age 77, of 876 SR 3005, Meshoppen, Pa., (South Auburn), passed away Sunday afternoon, Dec. 30, 2012, at Tyler Memorial Hospital in Tunkhannock, Pa.
Born Sept. 27, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Jess Lee and Addie Pearl Campbell Wolfe in Rogersville.
Dorothy graduated from Bulls Gap High School and after high school attended business school in Kingsport.
Dorothy was a secretary for the Hawkins County Natural Gas Company and the Civil Defense office in Rogersville before retiring in 1979.
After retirement, she married her second husband George Young Scott Jr. on Sept. 27, 1979, and moved to the South Auburn area, where they became very active in the community.
She was a member of the South Auburn United Methodist Church as well as an active member of the Women Missions Union of the church.
She was also a member of the South Auburn Grange No. 1188. She enjoyed making "Ugly Quilts" and "Sleeping Bags" for the homeless.
Surviving is her husband of 33 years: George Young Scott Jr.; children: William "Bill" O. Nickels (Amy) of Manchester, Terry L. Nickels (Sharon) of Rogersville (Terry is a teacher with Greene Technology Center in Greeneville), and Dottie Jeffers (Gary) of Limestone; grandchildren: William O. Nickels Jr., Anna Grace Nickels, and Cooper Lee Nickels, all of Manchester, and Samuel Owen Nickels and Isaac James Nickels, both of Rogersville; seven stepchildren; 23 stepgrandchildren; a number of stepgreat-grandchildren; brother: Charles Wolfe (June) of Rogersville; sisters: Geraldine West (James) of Rogersville and Zelma Sue Craighead of Irving, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband: Owen E. Nickels (April 3, 1964); brothers: Robert J. Wolfe, Eural Lee Wolfe, and Wayne Wolfe; and sisters: Evelyn Wolfe, Joyce Ann Wolfe, Ruth Wolfe, Viola Wolfe, Lola Wolfe, and Ruby Wolfe Clark.
Services were held Jan. 4 at South Auburn UM Church with the Rev. Pat Newhart officiating.
Visitation for her local friends and family will be held today at East Rogersville Baptist Church beginning at 1 p.m. with the service following at 2 p.m. The Rev. Richard Long will officiate.
Burial will follow the services in the Persia United Methodist Church Cemetery.
